Have you already asked yourself what the difference is between a participant and a member in an event?
Both members and participants have the same data (last name, first name, gender, ...).
A member is a player who is saved globally and can be used across events.
A participant is a player in an event. His data is stored there.
A participant can be linked to a member so that their results can be viewed e.g. B. can be put together in ranking lists.
If you add a member as a participant in an event, all of the member's data will be copied at this point and the participant will be assigned to the event. This ensures that the participant at an event will still have the same data in 2 years (e.g. the name after a marriage).

For events that are transferred to a leaderboard, each participant must be assigned to a member.
You can see from the symbol in the participant overview whether a participant is already linked to a member (green):
